Background on Hagar

Hagar International, established in 1994 in Cambodia, serves women and children who have survived severe exploitation and human rights abuse. In 2008 and 2009, Hagar expanded its model of long-term, individualized trauma-informed care (TIC) in Afghanistan and Vietnam respectively. In each context, Hagar is committed to the whole person for the long-term. Through protection, recovery, empowerment and community integration, Hagar joins each woman and child on their journey towards wholeness. Our work encompasses our values: Respect, Integrity, Compassion and Excellence (RICE).

To scale-up the impact and replicate our model, Hagar Vietnam builds knowledge, capacity and commitment of other agencies and individuals about trauma informed care (TIC). This includes government, government-affiliated, organisations (local and international), and individuals, to deliver a specialised model of care and support.

The Psychologist has an important role. He/she is in charge of providing psychological support to survivors from violence, trafficking and abuse to heal their trauma and promote their resiliency, well-being and interpersonal skills; Increase awareness on mental health and trauma for relevant stakeholders through capacity building inputs; Support Hagar staff and Hagar program development in psychological sector.

Hagar International in Vietnam is now looking for passionate and qualified Vietnamese candidates to fulfil 1 Psychologist (full-time or part-time) based in Hanoi office. Travel to the provinces as required. Please see the attached file for detail JD for the post.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCES

Position Requirements

Essential or Preferable

Education

  • Master’s Degree in Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Psychology Counselling or other Psychotherapy approach.

     Required

Knowledge/Skills

  • Basic knowledge and understanding about trauma, abuse/violence and mental health issue.
  • Advance knowledge and understanding in psychotherapy approaches.
  • Basic knowledge and understanding about human rights and gender-based violence.
  • Ability to establish a trusting relationship with clients experiencing trauma, especially women and children.
  • Good case management and record keeping skills.
  • Ability to respect the need for confidentiality, especially for the high- risk situation of trafficked persons or survivors of domestic violence.
  • Ability to adapt to the changing needs of clients.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Ability to keep professional boundaries, code of ethics and address all personal issues, which may affect your work.
  • Must possess a professional demeanour at all times, including in high stress situations.
  • Understanding Hagar’s mission and principles.
  • Willing to work as part of a team and independently as required.
  • Ability to work with diverse personalities, and persons of all ages, ethnicity, sexual orientation and abilities.

  • Able to communicate in written and verbal English.

Preferred

Experience

  • 3–5 years’ experience in practicing counseling and psychotherapy. 
  • Proven ability to work independently.

Required

  • 1 year of experience in working with women and children experiencing trauma in psychology field.
  • Prior experience with developing and maintaining professional relationships with survivors of trauma.
