Public Health Specialist (Immunization and VPD Surveillance)
The U.S. Embassy in Vietnam is seeking to recruit the following position:
Position: Public Health Specialist (Immunization and VPD Surveillance), vacancy announcement number HANOI-2022-47
Requirement:
Experience: At least five years of mid-to-senior level public health experience in a field related directly to “surveillance or programming or policy” work on vaccine preventable diseases that involves coordination with an international agency or implementing partner is required.
Education: Doctoral level (MD, DrPH or PhD) degree or host country equivalent in medicine, public health, nursing, laboratory science or epidemiology is required.
LANGUAGES:
- Fluency in Speaking/Reading/Writing English is required. (This will be tested.)
- Fluency in Speaking/Reading/Writing Vietnamese is required.
JOB KNOWLEDGE: Must have:
- Comprehensive knowledge of the epidemiology of vaccine preventable diseases.
- Detailed knowledge of disease surveillance principles.
- An in-depth knowledge of the range of EPI and vaccine preventable disease programs, policies, regulations, and precedents applicable to the development and administration of national/international surveillance systems.
- A good working knowledge of team management techniques to plan, organize and direct multi-disciplinary project teams and activities.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Must have/must be:
- Must have good program management and analytical skills and the ability to independently develop formal proposals, protocols, and briefing documents.
- Ability to think strategically about program approach and goals and the ability to lead results-driven project teams and workgroups.
- Must be conversant with survey design and questionnaire development and with data management programs, such as Epi Info, SPSS, and SAS and have strong skills in interpretation of program monitoring and evaluation data.
- A facility for manipulating numbers and keyboarding skills and have good managerial skills to operate independently with limited direct supervision of day-to-day activities and to lead results-driven project teams and workgroups.
- Ability to analyze, understand and discuss data, program and systems design and revision, and management and implementation approaches.
- Strong skills in the interpretation of program monitoring and evaluation data, including the ability to understand and synthesize numerical data.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills, including the ability to communicate and coordinate with the CDC in Atlanta, Vietnamese government officials and other immunization partners such as the U.S. Government agencies, United Nations agencies (WHO, UNICEF), and international NGOs and standard knowledge of related software, basic knowledge of numerical, keyboard/data entry and statistical skills and basic knowledge of IT hardware and software.
