Room to Read partners with local communities throughout the developing world to provide quality educational opportunities by establishing libraries, creating local language children’s literature, constructing schools, and providing education to girls. Through the opportunities that only education can provide, we strive to break the cycle of poverty, one child at a time.
Since their inception, Room to Read’s worldwide team has impacted over 4.1 million children by constructing 1,129 schools, establishing 10,000 libraries, publishing 550 new children’s book titles in 22 local languages, and putting over 10,000 girls onto long-term, holistic scholarships. Our long-term goal is to help 10 million children to gain the lifelong gift of education.
In Vietnam, Room to Read has been implementing five programs including the Reading Room, the Girls’ Education, the Local Language Publishing, Computer Program and Literacy Program in eight provinces and city of Vietnam.

Position Overview
The Reading Room Program Officer’s overall responsibility is to manage the implementation of Enhanced Reading Rooms in two provinces of Can Tho and Vinh Long. They will be in charge of the implementation of training, budgeting, monitoring and supporting activities designed for the Enhanced program and other tasked assigned by the Reading Room Program Manager, the Country Office.

General Duties & Responsibilities
Under the direct management of the Reading Room Program Manager, the Program Officers will work together for
- The overall implementation of the Annual Plan designed for Enhanced Reading Rooms (E-RRs) in Can Tho and Vinh Long
- Survey and selection of target schools for E-RRs and Reading Room schools in Can Tho and Vinh for 2011
- Management of budget allocation and budget expenditure for E-RRs
- Conduct regular monitoring and supporting visits to E-RRs and other Reading Rooms in Can Tho and Vinh Long
- Management of resource quality and the process of resource selection/distribution to E-RRs and Reading Rooms
- Management of program data/information input on E-RRs to Room to Read’s Global Statistics Data (GSD)
- Representation, management and maintenance of Can Tho Office, Room to Read Vietnam
- Completion of monthly/quarterly reports on program activities for the Country Office and donors
- Collaboration with Reading Room Program Team at the Country Office and local government for activities to promote children’s habit of reading and reading awareness among parents and communities
- Coordination with the Reading Room Program and other Programs especially the Local Language Publication and the Literacy Program for activities implemented with Enhanced Reading Rooms
- Coordination with the Monitoring and Evaluation Team at the Country Office for monitoring of and supporting to program activities, Field Facilitators’ training and data collection
- Support with meetings, program events, study tours... of Room to Read Vietnam with governments, CO/RO/GO visitors, donors to program sites
- Performance of other tasks assigned by the Reading Room Program Manager.

Qualifications:
- A university degree in related fields
- A minimum of 3 years of professional experience especially in education
- Prior experience working with schools, teachers, administrators and government officials
- Good knowledge and experience of development work, program management and training of trainers
- Strong planning, supervisory, and management skills
- Ability to travel frequently to target provinces
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English and Vietnamese
- Good working experience with education programs/projects
- Good working experience with local partners, government and other INGOs

Other Experience
- Prior success working closely and building relationships with diverse groups of people
- Effectiveness in working or volunteering in a non-profit organization that is focused on maintaining high quality work and low overhead
- Prior experience in a fast-paced, growth-oriented global or regional organization
- Proven track record of achieving results
- Ability to juggle multiple priorities simultaneously and take initiative

Compensation:
The salary range for this position will be determined based upon the experience of the candidate hired. Benefits including health and a retirement plan are also provided.
