Research Assistant for Gender Analysis in Health

GIZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit - German International Cooperation) was formed on 1 January 2011, bringing together the long-standing expertise of DED, GTZ and Inwent. Since 2009, GIZ, in cooperation with the German Development Bank (KfW), supports the Ministry of Health in the framework of the Program “Strengthening Provincial Health Systems” in the implementation of the Vietnamese strategies for improving access to high quality health services for all strata of the population. The program operates on several levels, advising provincial health authorities as well as hospital management teams in demand-oriented and cost-efficient planning and modern management methods. The program further supports the partner’s organizational development on national, provincial and district level through advisory services and capacity building aiming at improved quality for preventive as well as curative health services.

The GIZ Health Program is recruiting an enthusiastic local student to support the team of two German students who will perform a gender study in the area of human resource management in the health sector. This includes developing an appropriate methodology, data collection, data analysis and report writing.

In team with the German students and under the supervision of the technical advisors and managers of the project, the research assistant will assume the following responsibilities:

Main responsibilities:
- Assist the team in all steps of the study implementation, including background research, design of data collection tools, interviews with key stakeholders, data processing and report writing
- Facilitate communication with local stakeholders, as well as identification and contacting of key informants / relevant experts
- Translate / interpret Vietnamese – English and vice versa

Required qualifications:
- Academic background in public health, health sciences, social sciences or HR management
- Experience in qualitative and quantitative research
- Good analytical skills
- Vietnamese native speaker and very good command of English
- Good understanding of gender-specific issues desirable
- Very good command of MS-Office applications

Duration and place of assignment: 20th September until 14th December 2012, placed in Hanoi with frequent travel to two selected provinces in Vietnam.
