About the Position

The CIAT Asia regional office in Hanoi is recruiting a Research Associate on Environment and Agriculture to support research processes focused on climate resilient agriculture and environmental issues. The Research Associate will work within CIAT research teams on Climate Resilient Agriculture and Agroecosystems and Sustainable Landscapes to provide support in research design, data collection, analysis and scientific writing. The Research Associate is also expected to support technical assistance, implement field level activities and collaborate with partners across countries.

The position is available for nationals of Southeast Asia and is based in Hanoi.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to CIAT’s culture of research excellence with expertise on climate resilient agriculture and environmental issues.
• Support high-quality, actionable research through design, data collection, analysis and report writing for research and technical assistance activities across Southeast Asia.
• Support teams working on climate resilience, ecosystem services and environmental sustainability project to discover useful insights that can be made from their project data.
• Proactively contribute new ideas and considerations to improve and enhance project deliverables, collaborations and workflows.
• Support design and delivery of knowledge products that meet CIAT’s quality standards and are designed to lead to actionable results.
• Support collaborative proposal development of proposals for research, technical assistance and development to advance environmental and climate resilience goals in Southeast Asia.
• Support CIAT efforts on building partnerships and stakeholder networks across Southeast Asia.

Requirements

• A minimum of five (5) years’ experience working on environmental, agriculture and/or socio- economic issues required. Regional experience in Southeast Asia preferred.
• MSc in Natural Resources Management, Integrated Watershed Management, Sustainable Agriculture, Rural Development, Ecology, Biology or other applied-science related fields.
• Strong desire to learn, advance in applied sciences and acquire new skills is required.
• Excellent English communication skills (drafting, presentation and reporting) required.
• Demonstrated capacity to work independently and as part of interdisciplinary teams in a culturally diverse and inclusive work environment is essential.
• Experience with statistical analysis, environmental modelling, or socio-economic analysis is highly desirable.
• Prior experience supervising one or two team members will be valuable.

Terms of employment

The position is full-time, limited to applicants of Southeast Asian nationality. Contracts are issued and renewed annually, based on performance. This position will be subject to an initial three-month probation period. CIAT is an equal opportunity employer and strives for staff diversity.
