Research Fellow in Sustainable Development

Research Fellow in Sustainable Development - Lower Mekong Public Policy Initiative, Fulbright Economics Teaching Program (FETP), Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

The Fulbright School

Established in 1994, the Fulbright Economics Teaching Program (FETP/Fulbright School) is a joint initiative of the Harvard Kennedy School’s Vietnam Program (USA) and the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam). FETP is a leading center for economics and public policy teaching and research. It offers a Masters in Public Policy (MPP), the first graduate level program in public policy in Vietnam. A dedicated teaching faculty provides students with a world-class public policy education that is theoretically rigorous and pays specific attention to Vietnam’s unique conditions. As Vietnam develops, the MPP introduces new course offerings to meet emerging policy challenges. Students come to FETP from a wide range of professional backgrounds and hold Bachelor degrees from a variety of disciplines.

The Lower Mekong Public Policy Initiative (LMPPI)

LMPPI is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). It is housed at the Fulbright School. The LMPPI’s primary goal is to facilitate knowledge generation, learning, and dialogue on public policies which promote economic development that is ecologically sustainable, agriculturally productive, and improve household livelihoods in the Lower Mekong countries (Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, and Myanmar/Burma). LMPPI partners with international/national research institutes, private sector actors, and research-centered non-government organizations within the region, to generate policy relevant research to the challenges facing the environment, agriculture and livelihoods. A key feature of LMPPI is to ensure that its research enhances the curriculum and learning opportunities at the Fulbright School.

The Position

To expand its support for the Fulbright School, LMPPI will be hiring a Research Fellow in Sustainable Development. The fellow will assist LMPPI staff in various LMPPI research projects. The fellow is also expected to contribute to the curriculum development and teaching in the flagship MPP program at the Fulbright School.

LMPPI/FETP invites applications for a two-year research fellow position in Sustainable Development to begin immediately. Applications are welcome from candidates meeting a minimum requirement including a Master’s degree in either social or natural or applied sciences, and with research, teaching, and/or work experience in the following areas: economic development, environmental science/economics, agricultural economics, natural resource management, or public policy. Teaching, mentoring, policy-engagement, and research at the Fulbright School rely on the diverse interests and skills of a multi-functional fellow. This position includes collaboration with the LMPPI’s multidisciplinary research partners in the countries of the Lower Mekong as well as development of research-based policy dialogue programs with various stakeholders and environmental governance actors. Fluency in the Vietnamese language is a plus.
