Research Institute/Organization/Firm and Individual Consultants with Teams for Conducting a Qualitative Study on Masculinities and Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in Vietnam

For your information, UNFPA and UN Women Viet Nam are seeking proposals from interested research institute/organization/firm and individual consultants with teams for conducting a Qualitative Study on Masculinities and Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in Vietnam.
The general objective of the assignment is to undertake a qualitative study on masculinities and gender-based violence in Viet Nam with a minimum sample of twenty men aged 18 (although we suggest a larger sample) and above, using life-history methodologies. This research will be part of the regional Partner for Prevention, Gender-based Violence and Masculinities Research Project, and technical support will be provided by the Partners for Prevention (P4P). Through P4P, there will also be opportunities for the Viet Nam research team to collaborate with compare research findings from other countries, participate in regional research workshops, and get support from the global team of technical experts.
The qualitative component of the research aims to look in-depth at individual men’s life histories to understand how these may have impacted on men’s practices today, as well as understanding the trajectory of expression of (counter) hegemonic practices across and throughout men’s lives. To do this, the research will contrast the practices and lives of a spectrum of men, from those who display behaviors that run counter to the mould of traditional or hegemonic masculinity (‘gender equitable’ men and/or men involved in caring), to men who are identified as perpetrators of violence against women.  By looking at this spectrum we hope to develop a deeper insight into how we can prevent GBV and encourage men to be engaged in violence prevention efforts.
