IDH helps to accelerate the sustainable production and trade of agricultural commodities produced in Asia, Africa and South America and traded globally. We build ambitious public private coalitions of companies, civil society organizations and governments and high-impact programs in order to benefit people, planet and profit. With co-funding from the Dutch, Swiss, Danish and Norwegian Governments, and from business partners, IDH organizes scoping, development and implementation of public private partnerships in 11 sectors such as coffee, tea, aquaculture, apparel and 11 landscapes across 7 countries. IDH is a dynamic organization of 60 staff members based in Utrecht, The Netherlands, with hubs in Asia, Africa and Latin-America. In the last year IDH has expanded its activities and now runs around 600 projects in 50 countries, together with a wide range of private and public partners.

Starting operating in Vietnam in 2010, IDH has since established strong partnerships with businesses, government and civil society organizations working on coffee, tea, cocoa, spices/pepper, aquaculture and apparel/footwear sectors. Since 2014, IDH also launched a program aimed at using the public- private approach to addressing the key sustainability issues in the Central Highlands of Vietnam, which plays a key role in the production of several agricultural commodities.

Senior Accountant

Job purpose

The position will overall responsible for the accounting and financial management of IDH Vietnam in compliance with the accounting and financial procedure of IDH and with the Vietnamese Law.

The position will be based in Hanoi and will report directly to IDH Vietnam Country Director and technically report to Financial Director at IDH headquarter in the Netherlands.

Key responsibilities

• Represent IDH Vietnam Office as the Chief Accountant to the banks and donors and act as financial controller of IDH Vietnam projects and programs.
• Maintain an accurate accounting filing system and ensure that data system is in good order, in computerized form in compliance with IDH accounting requirements to ensure the effective functioning of financial and accounting operations in support of IDH’s work.
• Manage and conduct accounting activities, including the bookkeeping, in compliance with the accounting and financial procedure of IDH and with the Vietnamese Law.
• Maintain petty cash transactions in compliance with the petty cash procedures of IDH, including writing receipts, preparing payment request forms, disbursement of cash and clearance of advances.
• Check budget lines to ensure that all transactions are correctly booked to the correct budget lines of the annual budget plan of each program.
• Report any actual or potential financial issues to the Country Director or IDH headquarter Finance Director as appropriate.
• Responsible for timely monthly consolidated financial statements, payments, cash-flow management, reporting for submission to HQ in Netherlands and other (international) donors.
• Provide guidance and advice to IDH Vietnam staff on issues related to financial procedures of IDH such as project procurement plan, instruct staff on tendering procedures and (pre)-contracting procedures s, etc.
• Responsible for the calculation of monthly payroll, personal income tax, social insurance, unemployment insurance and health  insurance for IDH Vietnam staff.
• Assist in preparation and review of project proposal budgeting, fundraising proposals and annual budget plan of IDH Vietnam and/or its donors.
• Prepare annual financial statements for the purpose of the donors of IDH Vietnam, IDH HQ and the Vietnamese (tax) authorities.
• Assist in auditing activities by providing necessary information and preparing requested documentations.
• Coordinate with international finance team to complete assigned accounting tasks within deadlines.
• Support IDH Vietnam Country Director in the implementation of the Country Operations Framework.
• Continuously improve systems & procedures to enhance internal controls to satisfy audit requirements.
• Maintain an inventory file to support purchases of all equipment/assets.
• Undertake other relevant tasks when required.

Requirements

The Senior Accountant should have following qualifications and experiences:

• Bachelor’s Degree or Master degree in Accounting/ Auditing/ Business/Economics/Finance or related field.
• At least 5 years working experience as senior accountant in similar position (experience of working in INGO is an advantage)
• Consistent, accurate, and thorough with an eye for details
• Have good computer skills in including Microsoft Office and accounting software
• Have good fiscal knowledge
• Ability in identifying and defining clearly the problem or risks, evaluating different ideas or ways of solving the problem from the data gathered.
• Willingness to participate in project field activities and ability to follow deadlines, accuracy and attention to detail, good organizational skills and aptitude for numbers
• Fluent spoken and written English.
• Demonstrated ability in team working.

Terms and conditions

The successful applicant will be offered a consultancy contract for one year with competitive remuneration, but with the possibility to extend. IDH offers a challenging position with opportunities for growth within an enthusiastic and passionate team.
