Senior Advisor Forest and Agriculture Livelihoods
SNV has been working in Vietnam since 1995. Using market based approaches, SNV is committed to reducing poverty by catalyzing environmentally sustainable solutions for the poor in agriculture, energy, water & sanitation, and REDD+ (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation).
SNV together with Winrock International, the American Red Cross and SRD, will implement the USAID supported Vietnam Forests and Deltas (VFD) Program. The primary purpose of this program is to accelerate Vietnam’s transition to climate resilient, low emissions development through investments in reducing net emissions from forests, and enhancing resiliency of people, places, and livelihoods. The program will primarily invest in provincial and district level demonstration and capacity building, and share lessons learned to inform national policies and implementation. The project will be introduced in close consultation and in support of priorities of the relevant Government of Vietnam ministries and departments at the national and local level.
We are seeking highly qualified national candidate for the position of Senior Advisor Forest and Agriculture Livelihoods to join the project team.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical advice for development of approaches to improve local livelihoods and address drivers of deforestation and degradation, including improved forest and upland agricultural management, enhancement of non-timber forest product management, community forestry
- Provide advice and support to initiatives to incorporate agriculture and forest livelihoods into land use planning at provincial, district, and village level, as appropriate
- Assist communities in the identification of business/market opportunities with local partners towards ‘certified’ agricultural products that offer additional income and contribute to strategies for either climate change adaptation
- Develop terms of references for the engagement of Local Capacity Builders (LCBs) and consultants for project implementation activities and conduct evaluation of consultants
- Supervise the LCBs and consultants throughout the implementation of their assignments
- Complete other tasks assigned by Line Manager
Candidate profile
- Vietnamese National
- University degree in Forestry, Agro-forestry, or relevant field
- At least seven year experience in implementing or provision of technical advice to projects
- Good understanding of sustainable livelihoods, upland agricultural and forest systems, forest management, climate change and adaptation strategies
- Technical knowledge in relevant fields, including value chain analysis, community forestry, livelihood analysis, agro-forestry, land allocation and land use planning, non-timber forest product marketing and development is preferred
- Experience in capacity building and organizational development
- Knowledge of participatory rural appraisal/participatory learning and action techniques; gender analysis; and project planning, monitoring and evaluation skills
- Understanding and ability to work closely with government counterparts
- Good training and facilitation skills
- Excellent interpersonal and oral and written communication skills (English and Vietnamese)
- Good computer skills in MS-applications (Word, Excel, Internet, Email, Power Points)
Contract Duration
One-year associate consultancy contract with a competitive salary package and possibility of extension
