The Senior Entrepreneurship Associate works with relevant colleagues under the supervision of the Senior Green Finance Officer and the guidance of Project Manager (PM) to implement entrepreneurship-related initiatives, including but not limited to the AIS4EE Program in Viet Nam. The postholder is required to have experience in working with start-ups, including developing and organizing accelerator programs, hackathons, and trainings. Broad sector expertise ideally in the field of innovation, energy efficiency, sustainable development, climate change, and green growth is desirable. The postholder will work collaboratively across GGGI's divisions as well as with the relevant government authorities (MOIT, EUD), private sector entities, and other relevant stakeholders.

The postholder will have adequate level of stakeholder participation and strategic thinking skills, is experienced in assessing innovative products and business models of start-ups, understands the most common funding structures for start-ups and early-stage companies has proven project management skills. Adequate relevant professional experience and networks in Viet Nam are essential.

PURPOSE

  • Conduct research and assessment to understand the context of entrepreneurship and start-up ecosystem in Viet Nam, including start-ups in the energy efficiency, transport, industry, and green buildings sector, aiming to identify potential opportunities in alignment with GGGI mandate.
  • Act as the focal point to engage with the innovation ecosystem (i.e., entrepreneurships and start ups),  including incubators, accelerators, venture capital and private equity firms, etc., and in identification of potential companies.
  • Support the design and development of the AIS4EE acceleration program, and organize 2 rounds of start-up acceleration training and coaching program..
  • Provide ideas to design and organize 3-6 months coaching program for EE start-ups in cooperation with professional training company.
  • Support  business development, and organization of networking events for all relevant stakeholders including investors to identify potential projects and business opportunities. 
  • Support research on policy gaps hampering innovations of EE start-ups in Viet Nam
  • Coordinate with other experts to provide relevant technical input throughout project implementation and support colleagues in ad-hoc tasks.

ENGAGEMENT

The postholder provides high quality research and engagement to support the development of the green entrepreneurship in Viet Nam, under the supervision of the Senior Investment Officer. Accordingly, the postholder will need to engage with relevant stakeholders in the entrepreneurship and start-up ecosystem. The key engagement includes but not limited to:

  • Support PM and project team in building close working relationships and a strong network with a wide range of stakeholders across government and the private sector (both Vietnamese and international), such as entrepreneurs/SMEs, incubators, accelerators, venture capital and private equity firms.
  • Support facilitation of discussion between government, development partners and donors to implement project and identify potential business opportunities.

DELIVERY

Under the guidance of the PM, the postholder will undertake specific outputs in relation to the AIS4EE and other entrepreneurship topics. In this role, the postholder shall:

  • Monitor their own project outputs to ensure work is being delivered on schedule and within the project parameters;
  • Provide required inputs in a timely manner to support subsequent work that is consistent with the work plan and project cycle.
  • Support the collection of data and relevant metrics for reporting to GGGI HQ and donors.
  • Assist developing new connections with relevant stakeholders and institutions in the public and private sectors.
  • Support new collaborations with international partners (country or global level).
  • Support the development of tools for capacity building and knowledge sharing products such as insight briefs and toolkits.
  • Report to project managers, with travel to project sites as required.

REQUIREMENTS

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor degree in relevant field, i.e. finance, business, project management, international development, energy efficiency, climate change, innovation. A Master’s degree is an advantage.
  • Preferred minimum 4 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and Vietnamese is required.

FUNCTIONAL

  • Outstanding stakeholder engagement, client relationship, communication and consensus building skills.
  • Proven project delivery experience, i.e. managing the delivery of results on time and on budget.
  • Leadership, teamwork and creative problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent multi-cultural literacy and interest in being a part of an international team working in an evolving and entrepreneurial environment
  • Experience working with implementing accelerator programs and have a good understanding of public policy, energy efficiency, climate change, and green growth is highly recommended.
  • Experience and technical knowledge of the start-up/entrepreneurship environment and innovations in Vietnam.
  • Experience engaging with a wide range of stakeholders including ministries, donors, private sector players is a strong plus.
  • Experience working in Viet Nam.

The program is funded by the Delegation of the European Union to Viet Nam (EUD) and implemented jointly by GGGI and the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT).
