VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

As a federal enterprise, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH supports the German Government in achieving its objectives in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development. On behalf of the German Government, GIZ currently provides advisory services to the Government of Viet Nam in three priority areas: Vocational training, Environmental policy and sustainable use of natural resources, and Energy. The objective of the project “ASEAN AgriTrade” is: “The prerequisites for the implementation of standards on quality and sustainability in agricultural value chains in the ASEAN region are improved.” Therefore, the project will provide assistance in the following areas:

  • Enhancing the cooperation between relevant ASEAN bodies and the private sector;
  • Gender mainstreaming in relevant ASEAN strategy documents;
  • Improving the prerequisites for private sector engagement in three of the CLMV countries;
  • Conducting awareness campaigns on the health and ecological benefits of sustainable agricultural products in the CLMV countries;
  • Compiling lessons learnt on the implementation of standards on quality and sustainability for decision-makers in the CLMV countries.

“German Coffee Innovation Fund Southeast Asia”

The objective is that SMEs and startups, as well as producer organisations in Myanmar, Indonesia and Vietnam, will be able to sell their quality products in higher-value markets through innovative measures. Fast-growing Asian markets And arket sustainability requirements also play an important role. Because of the extraordinarily good cultivation capability, the measure is initially piloted in Southeast Asia (Indonesia, Vietnam and Myanmar). In a next Phase starting in 2021, the Lessons-learned won there will also be valued as part of a South-South cooperation with African and Latin American countries.

SMEs are supported in developing innovative Approaches to increased value creation and broading the successful concepts as "national Champions".

Through a German Coffee Innovation Fund SEA, innovative concepts are promoted by entrepreneurs in the coffee value chain in integrated development partnerships (approximately €10,000 to 50,000).

The following possible priorities are envisaged

  • Building producer communities and Introducing Sustainability approaches in the supply chain (Bio, Direct Trade, Fairtrade, Rainforest Alliance, Living Income).
  • Improved Transparency and Traceability in the Supply Chain.
  • Innovation in Processing (Roasting, packaging, Durability).
  • Innovative Marketing (social Media, Online shops, Coffee Shops) in national (Focus Region Southeast Asia) and international Markets such as the EU.

It also promotes the use of information and Communication Technology (ICT). The market-oriented development of innovative concepts is ensured by the involvement of potential customers in higher-value markets (e.g. Business Linkages, Match-making, market Exploration trips, Peer learning).

The Project is looking for an internal or external qualified candidate to fill the position:

Senior Project Officer “AgriTrade”
Duty station: Ha Noi, Viet Nam
Duration: ASAP to 31. December 2020

Main responsibility

  • Coordinates regional activities of both the Coffee Fund and ASEAN AgriTrade
  • Facilitates trainings and workshops in Viet Nam
  • Implements capacity building activities with potential Institutions in cooperation with the public sector and the private sector in Viet Nam
  • Links the projects to other relevant donors and public partners in the field of Agriculture, Export Promotion development and coffee market access in ASEAN, Europe and USA
  • Official represents GIZ and its project portfolio towards the ministries and private sector organizations in Viet Nam
  • Regular updates the Team Leader in Hanoi about upcoming important topics in Viet Nam with relevance to AgriTrade and Coffee innovations
  • Supports the monitoring and evaluation of the coffee fund and AgriTrade project
  • Performs other project related tasks as assigned by the Team Leader in Hanoi

Minimum requirements:

  • Masters/MSc/bachelor’s degree in an area that is relevant to achieve the program objectives (e.g.: Business administration, Economics, Agriculture and Trade)
  • Minimum of working experiences of 5-8 years in a similar position
  • Experience in managing components of EU, UN or GIZ funded projects with focus on SME, Export Promotion and/or Institutional Strengthening; and value chain management
  • Professional competence and mastery of subject matter, is conscientious and efficient in meeting commitments, observing deadlines and achieving results with accountability
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing in English and one other Asian language and to listen to others, correctly interprets messages from others and responds appropriately
  • Ability to possess knowledge-based sensitivity and persistency in convincing stakeholders
  • Experience in networking with agencies, service providers, and public partners
  • Committed to the highest ethical standards in furtherance of his/her mission and the objectives of the program partners
  • Excellent written and oral knowledge of English language, knowledge of one or more of the other regional languages will be an asset
  • Good interpersonal and intercultural skills in working with various partners from different countries, willingness to travel and working knowledge of ITC technologies and computer applications.
