Job Opening: Senior Project Officer, IWT (Illegal Wildlife Trade)

We are looking for committed, result-driven individual for the position of: Senior Project Officer, IWT

Major functions: The IWT Senior Project Officer is an exciting opportunity to engage in a series of actions to conserve wildlife from the illegal trade, especially in relation to ivory and rhino horn. The position will work under the overall direction and supervision of the Illegal Wildlife Trade Manager to deliver the program objectives on combatting wildlife crimes in relation to ivory, rhino horn and bushmeat. He/she will provide support to the program planning, management, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of project activities to ensure compliance with the WWF’s contractual obligations, and ensure close collaboration between the project and partners and other relevant stakeholders in the project sites. Specifically, he/she will be responsible for the daily operation and implementation of the Ivory HII funded by WWF-United Kingdom, WWF-Germany, WWF-Netherlands, a major part of it relates to scientific research on wildlife consumer behaviors. She/he is also expected to keep records on seizures, successful/unsuccessful wildlife crime prosecution cases, new legislation on wildlife conservation and trade in Vietnam

Base location: Hanoi, Vietnam

Key requirements for the role include:

  • Master of science on natural resources management, environmental management,  environmental communication, environmental science, biology conservation, or relevant fields;
  • At least 5 years of working experience in an international development/environmental related organization or similar, of which at least 2 years in the field of communication for behavioral change;
  • Good understanding of illegal wildlife trade issues, the supply and demand drivers that link to social norms and behaviors of the wildlife consumers in the Vietnam context;
  • Knowledge of international, regional and national laws and commitments related to wildlife crime, especially CITES;
  • General knowledge of the Vietnamese environmental priority, socio-economic, political and cultural characteristics, development prospects, potential, and resources as well as knowledge of the GVN’s environmental priorities, policies, and procedures;
  • Experience of working with Government officials, local communities and donors;
  • Strong inter-personal skills and excellent verbal communication skills;
  • Strategic thinking skills to ensure the sustainable impactful results in project implementation;
  • Understanding and experience in communications for behaviour change;
  • Competence in application of statistics for monitoring and evaluation;
  • Good project planning, coordination, time management, budget estimate and adhering to financial and logistical procedures;
  • Good presentation, training, and report writing skills;
  • Demonstrates WWF working behaviours including strive for impact, listen deeply, collaborate, openly and innovate fearlessly;
