Senior Renewable Energy Advisor

SNV Vietnam is looking for a: Senior Renewable Energy Advisor, based in Hanoi, Vietnam.

SNV has been working in Vietnam since 1995. Using market based approaches, SNV is committed to reducing poverty by catalyzing environmentally sustainable solutions for the poor in agriculture, energy, water & sanitation, and REDD+ (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation).

SNV Vietnam’s Renewable Energy (RE) division is best known for the multiple award winning National Biogas Program that has reached over 650.000 individuals with the benefits of domestic biogas. This year the National Biogas Program is celebrating its 10 year anniversary. In recent years SNV’s work in the RE sector has expanded to include medium-scale biogas, improved cookstoves, gasification, waste to energy and RE consultancy work.

To support the growing portfolio of projects SNV Vietnam now seeks a Senior Advisor Renewable Energy. This position will be responsible for both overseeing existing RE projects as mentioned above, along with supporting the Sector Leader and potentially taking a leading role in the development of new project ideas, concepts and business opportunities. Fostering productive relationships with donors, government and other stakeholders will be an important aspect of the position.

Responsibilities

Program implementation

- Develop and monitor implementation of project work plans for relevant team members and stakeholders
- Provide overall guidance in the implementation of activities under the work plan
- Coaching and supervision of project staff
- Meet with project partners and donors to monitor progress, including proactive troubleshooting if/when required
- Oversee the development of periodical operational and financial reports for the projects as required

Financial management

- Ensure that project implementation meets donor compliance requirements
- Maintain budgetary control and financial management , including oversight of expenses and procurement process
- Ensure that the programme complies with all legal and bureaucratic requirements in Vietnam

Stakeholder Engagement

- Develop and present SNV programs or concepts to donors as required to secure their interest and support
- Network and engage local stakeholders for collaboration and support of project activities
- Build and strengthen SNV’s relationships with the relevant Governmental bodies

Business Development

- Develop project concept(s)
- Ensure high quality proposals to be written and submitted

Candidate profile

- Vietnamese citizen
- University degree in energy, engineering, natural resources, economics or management
- At least 7 years of relevant experience in project management in an international development organisation or working in an international context
- Extensive experience in renewable energy sector including an understanding of the technical and the institutional barriers existing in the Vietnam market
- Excellent understanding and experiences with private sector/market development
- Good team worker, able to work closely with a team under pressure
- Experience of establishing strong working relationships with colleagues from different functions and cultures
- Good leadership skills and a supportive management style
- Good training/capacity building and management skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in English (spoken & written)

Contract Duration: One-year associate consultancy contract with possibility of extension contingent on funding
