Senior Short-Term Consultant in Health and Development Strategic Planning

FHI 360, also known as Family Health International, is a non-governmental organization that works with the Vietnam Ministry of Health, other ministries, provincial health services, and local non-government organizations to promote the health and well-being of the Vietnamese population, particularly vulnerable and disenfranchised groups. In Vietnam, FHI 360 is currently building the capacity of local organizations in HIV/AIDS prevention, care, and treatment; TB control; nutrition; maternal and child health; dengue control; behavioral and epidemiologic research methods training; clinical research in new vaccines and drugs; and laboratory strengthening.

Scope of work
FHI 360 Vietnam is seeking a consultant to work with the Vietnam country team to lead a strategic planning exercise for the office. The consultant’s work will include collecting health and development data on Vietnam, organizing meetings with government and non-government partners, and liaising with FHI 360 regional and US-based staff to ultimately develop a long-term strategic plan for the office.

Duration: The consultant should have significant time available in the months of December 2011 and January 2012, with possible work thereafter.

Working Station: FHI 360 Hanoi office.

Essential qualifications:
FHI 360 is seeking individuals who have experience in strategic planning for organizations, knowledge of the health and development landscape in Vietnam, and building consensus from interviews and data.

Candidates should have the following:
- Advanced degree in medicine, public health, or a related discipline.
- At least 5 years of experience in Vietnam in public health.
- Strong communication, leadership and consensus-building skills.  
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with a wide array of people in complex organizations.
