Short-term Aquaculture National Consultant

SNV has been working in Vietnam since 1995. Using market based approaches, SNV is committed to reducing poverty by catalyzing environmentally sustainable solutions for the poor in agriculture, energy, water & sanitation, and REDD+.
SNV is engaged in the aquaculture sector in Viet Nam with the innovative up-scaling program for pangasius, which is designed to improve the environmental and social sustainability of the pangasius production in Vietnam. The program will establish a service platform that will facilitate and support producers to produce pangasius according to internationally accepted sustainability standards.  The up-scaling program will support producers to comply with and meet the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) standards. The ASC support platform (ASC Accelerator) will offer an innovative, efficient, effective and up scalable model for traders and producers to access to selected strategic services and service providers to build capacity and production standards to meet ASC standards and reach certification.  To aid the implementation of this program SNV is now seeking a short-term national Aquaculture consultant who will provide technical advisory services to this program.

Responsibilities
- Under the guidance of the Senior technical advisor deliver technical advisory services to pangasius producers for the ASC Accelerator program;  
- Support to conduct the needs assessment for the ASC Accelerator program;
- Provide coaching to associated partners within the ASC Accelerator program;
- Ensure and monitor progress and quality of advisory services under the ASC Accelerator;
- Ensure client satisfaction during implementation of the ASC Accelerator assignment;
- Document and share lessons learned within SNV, clients;
- Contribute to external communication, draft articles;
- Contribute to internal and external Knowledge development and support the collective learning for clients and the aquaculture team;

Candidate profile
- Academic level of Degree in aquaculture or equivalent, preferred Masters level qualification in Aquaculture.
- Minimum 5 years relevant experience at international private or development organizations.
- Knowledge of aquaculture sector, aquaculture standard and certification processes, commodities’ and special commodities’ market
- Proven capacity of engaging local productive initiatives with international best practices
- Knowledge of the international development field preferred;
- Experience working in a multi-cultural and diverse environment.

- Excellent communication skills in English, both spoken and written.
- Good computer skills in MS-applications (Word, Excel, Internet, Email, Power Points)
- Contract Duration: SNV Vietnam offers a two month associate consultancy contract.
- Desired start date: as soon as possible February 2012
