Short-term Photographer for Communication Materials

1. Background

The  USAID-funded  Vietnam  Forests  and  Deltas  Program  is  enhancing  climate  change  resilience planning and action  from community  to national  level. The program will put  into practice  the national policies and strategies on response to climate change and low emissions development with a focus on reducing emissions  from  forestry and agriculture sectors and strengthening climate-smart  livelihoods and  settlements,  particularly  in  rural  areas. Addressing  long-term  climate  change  risks  and  gender vulnerabilities in both forest and delta landscapes are key Program objectives.

Vietnam Forests and Deltas Program is looking for professional photographer to capture and provide high resolution  images of Thanh Hoa and Nghe An,  including  landscape, people, target communities where the Program is implemented its activities. 

The photographer will be required to have his/her own equipment and be available for traveling to the province.   

2. Key duties and responsible: 

  • Capture high resolution images of people (women, men and children), including portraits, action shots, daily life and documentary style photos of field activities;
  • Provide at least 60 selected, optimized and fully captioned images for each province;
  • Other photographs taken during the mission should also be provided.

Specific requirements for photos:

  • Delivery on DVD or hard drive
  • Images should be optimized  for  color, cropping and sharpness and delivered  in highest quality jpeg format
  • Photographers  should  shoot  in  RAW  if  she/he  desires,  but  RAW  images  need  to  be processed, optimized and output to jpeg prior to delivery
  • Pixel dimension: 3000 x 2000 at the minimum, or higher resolution. 
  • Photos should be edited to achieve maximum impact

3. Duration of assignment and duty station

  • The time required for the consultancy is estimated around maximum 6 working days for each province within the period from June – October 2014 in Thanh Hoa and Nghe An provinces.
  • Vietnam Forests and Deltas Program will cover travelling and accommodation related to the work. 

4. Final product and deliverables

  • Photographers provides highest resolution version of all images in electronic versions with ready-to-print condition, and complete caption information as per given standards
  • At least 100 “best” photos that have been taken during the assignment
  • Photographs shall be provided to the Program via an external format, eg. Flash drive or compact drive

5. Copyrights

  • All intellectual Property Rights of the photographs will be exclusively transferred to Vietnam Forests and Deltas Program. 
  • Vietnam Forests and Deltas Program can provide image(s) to its partners or the media at no cost, as is the practice.  

6. Qualifications, experience and competencies

  • Professional Vietnamese photographer
  • At least 3 years work experience in photography
  • Proven ability in photography and ability to assimilate and communicate complex visual messages in an engaging and user-friendly manner
  • Advanced knowledge and skills of photo editing software, eg. Adobe Photoshop and other editing tools are required 
  • Good communication in Vietnamese, English is an advantage
  • Knowledge and understanding of the development sector and climate change issues
  • Availability and willingness to travel independently to remote area of Thanh Hoa and Nghe An
