Project: Climate Smart Community Based Disaster Risk Reduction (CS-CBDRR)
Location: An Giang and Kien Giang Provinces
Reporting to: Project Manager and Program Coordinator
Contract type and duration: full-time, three months (extendable)
Expected starting date: 1 June 2014

Purpose of the activity:

Under the CS-CBDRR in the Mekong Delta jointly implemented by Vietnam Red Cross, Australian Red Cross and German Red Cross in 15 communes in An Giang and Kien Giang, in addition to non-structural components, structural interventions will enable the communities to reduce their vulnerabilities to disaster hazards and increase their resilience to climate risks. A construction engineer to perform regular technical monitoring is needed to ensure the relevance, feasibility, effectiveness and quality of the interventions for the communities.

Tasks

The position will be responsible for the following tasks:

1.Provide technical review to design and cost estimation
2.Provide instructions and evaluation of construction measures (location, structure, progress and quality)
3.Perform monitoring to construction activities of small scale mitigation to ensure the quality of the works
4.Check construction quantity and provide acceptance
5.Other relevant tasks as required by line manager.

Essential Selection Criteria

• Undergraduate/graduate degree in civil and industrial construction
• At least 2 years of experiences working o construction sites as construction supervisor
• Good written and spoken English skills
• Proactive, truthful and quick learner
• Can work independently and in team
