Specialist Market Assessment For Rice Husk Utilization

The AusAID-funded project ‘Sowing the Seeds of Change: Community-based Climate Change Mitigation through Sustainable Rice Production’ (SRI) will support and build the capacity of small holder rice producers and provincial agencies to adapt to climate change impacts, increase farmer’s profits, and reduce GHG emissions. One of the 4 components in the project is Renewable Energy which aims to utilize rice residues for renewable energy. The project operates in Binh Dinh and Quang Binh provinces.

Under the RE component, SNV Vietnam is looking at different technologies and opportunities to utilize rice husk for renewable energy production. Of significant potential is processing husk into other fuel forms which can be sold on the market to replace wood, coal or other fuels in commercial industries.

SNV is now seeking a specialist to identify the supply and demand of the potential rice husk market in the two provinces Binh Dinh and Quang Binh. Duration of the assignment is 30 man-days in April and May 2013. This market survey will be carried out in two provinces (Quang Binh and Binh Dinh).
