Organisation: Woolcock Institute of Medical Research in Vietnam

The Woolcock Institute is lung health research organisation, based at Sydney University, Australia (http://www.woolcock.org.au/). The Institute has operated in Vietnam since 2009, we undertake large and important operational and epidemiological and clinical research projects in collaboration with the National Tuberculosis Program in 9 Provinces, including Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City. The Woolcock also runs training in epidemiological and operational research methods for Vietnamese doctors and public health workers.

Currently the Woolcock directly employs 60 full-time staff in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Ca Mau.

Location: based in Hanoi, with occasional travel to Ho Chi Minh City, Thanh Hoa and Can Tho provinces

Duration:

  • 6 months appointment, with consideration for subsequent extension
  • This position will be on a part-time basis

Roles: To support the implementation of the study of the implementation of drug-resistant tuberculosis treatment in Vietnam. The role includes:

  • Acting as a liaison between the study and National Tuberculosis Program (NTP) staff
  • Facilitating the data collection process at study sites in Hanoi, Thanh Hoa, Ho Chi Minh City, and Can Tho
  • Managing data entry activities
  • Supporting the Study Manager in administrative and financial work
  • Conducting field work supervision

Reports to:

  • Study Manager, Cascade of Care Study

Key staff working within the study:

  • Study Manager
  • Data Entry Technicians

Main duties and Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate the collection of study data, ensuring that data collection protocols are strictly followed
  • Maintain good relations with NTP partners and report to the Study Manager any issues that occur
  • Assist NTP staff in locating study data, if requested
  • Follow up discrepancies in collected data with NTP staff, when necessary
  • Ensure that data forms are completed accurately and in a timely fashion
  • Support the organization of meetings with study staff and NTP partners
  • Support the development of study correspondence to study staff and partners
  • Manage the filing of study documents (both hard and soft copies)
  • Provide translation of technical study documents
  • Communication regularly with the Study Manager on the data collection process, results, and issues
  • Supervise the transcription of study data forms into digital format
  • Communicate any issues that occur in the field with the Study Manager
  • Support the analysis of study data
  • Carry out other administrative duties related to the study

Education:

  • Degree in public health or health-related degree

Essential criteria:

  • Ability to communicate fluently in Vietnamese and English
  • Knowledge of the treatment of tuberculosis
  • Experience in a hospital setting
  • Experience in quantitative and qualitative research
