Team Leader of Communication and Community Engagement

The Eliminate Dengue Program (EDP) is a large multi-institution research program led by Professor Scott O’Neill, Dean of the Faculty of Science and the School of Biological Sciences at Monash University (Australia). The program aims to develop a new approach to control dengue using Wolbachia pipientis, a naturally occurring bacterium, to block transmission of dengue viruses by the primary mosquito vector Aedes aegypti (www.eliminatedengue.com). The work is funded by The Foundation for the National Institutes of Health through Grand Challenges in Global Health Initiative of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and the Wellcome Trust. The EDP is being implemented in Australia, Vietnam, Indonesia, Brazil, and Colombia.

The program’s activities in Vietnam are managed by the National Institute for Hygiene and Epidemiology (NIHE) through the Eliminate Dengue Project Vietnam (EDPV). In 2015, the EDPV is conducting an assessment on the situation of Dengue disease and its related factors in Nha Trang city, Khanh Hoa in order to prepare for a possible large-scale Wolbachia-mosquito efficacy trial in Nha Trang city (expected to take place during 2016-2019). NIHE is seeking qualified and highly motivated Vietnamese nationals to work for the project in the position of Team Leader of Communication and Community Engagement (based in Nha Trang).
