Vacancy: Training consultant

Provide a training course to key personnel from the REDD+ Working group, Ke Go Nature Reserve and local community in Ha Tinh province.

With the support of the Federal Ministry of Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU), the Netherlands Development Organisation (SNV), and the Vietnam Administration of Forestry (VNFOREST) is implementing a Forestry/REDD+ project entitled “Advancing Understanding of Natural Forest Carbon Stock Enhancement as part of REDD+”, ENRICH in short, over a period of 3 years, from 2012 – 2014. This project aims to advance understanding of forest carbon stock enhancement as part of any future REDD+ Agreement through exploring the technical and economic feasibility of different forest carbon stock enhancement strategies in pilot sites in Vietnam. The project will help to introduce pilot activities and also assist developing appropriate guidance material and through building capacity in representative forest ecosystem in Ha Tinh and Ca Mau provinces.

1. Objective

The objective of this assignment is to provide a training course to key personnel from the REDD+ Working group, Ke Go Nature Reserve and local community. Through the provision of this training course, local community can understand and implement the silvicultural measures and the technical staff will further control and monitor the implementation plan of restoration activities which is currently implemented by the ENRICH project.

2. Responsibilities

Under the overall and direct supervision of the Project Manager of ENRICH, the Training Consultant will be responsible for the overall coordination, management and implementation of the training in silvicultural measures for the restoration of natural degraded forest according to the silvicultural treatments design documents of the ENRICH project.

This will include following responsibilities:

· Develop and implement training format and detailed agenda;
· Preparation of training materials, hand-out notes, posters, power point presentations, practical exercises, field trips agenda.
· Participate in evaluation and assessment of training results, report on lessons learned.
· Compile and submit a comprehensive training report.

3. Deliverables

· Along with delivering the training course on silvicultural measures practice, the Training Consultant will produce and handover to the ENRICH project the following documents:
· Training materials (including Agenda, Posters, Power Point presentations, outline for each session, evaluation form, attendance sheet, assessment form to be filled for each trainee)
· Training report (including recommendations on how to enhance the awareness and knowledge on silvicultural techniques   practices on forest restoration of the trainees)
· Monitoring form for the coaching and report on the field visits
· Comprehensive hand-out materials in simple langue
· The Training consultant will provide the soft copy and hard copy of all related documents in both Vietnamese and English.

4. Time frame

· 17 person days; to complete all tasks before 15th May 2013

5. Qualifications

- The successful consultant should have/be;
- At least 10 years of experience in forest establishment and sustainable forest management related capacity building.
- At least 7 years of experience in training, curriculum development, and experience working with grassroots communities.
- Proven record of delivering training on Close to nature Forestry
- Experience both for the practical and theoretical procedures for implementing training, especially in related fields
- Proven project work at international, national and local levels, including some supervisory experience
- Thorough understanding of Forest Management and development issues in the REDD+ context in Vietnam.
- Excellent facilitation and communication skills;
- Fluent in English and Vietnamese (speaking + writing);
- Knowledge on lowland evergreen forest management in Ke Go Nature Reserve is an advantage.
