Bio-Energy for Circular Agriculture (BECA)

SNV has been working in Vietnam since 1995. Using market-based approaches, SNV is committed to reducing poverty by catalysing environmentally sustainable solutions for the poor in agriculture, energy, water & sanitation, and Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD+).

SNV’s Energy Sector in Vietnam has so far largely focused on biomass-based technologies. Projects aim to create markets for sustainable energy technologies around biogas, cookstoves and waste to energy, as well as gender and climate change mitigation.

SNV manages the Partnership BPP – Bio-energy for Circular Agriculture (BeCA) project funded by DFAT. The project aims to promote green and sustainable livestock production by converting biogas on commercial livestock farms into clean electricity, producing organic fertilizer and stimulating green investment in the livestock sector through carbon financing.  Critically, it will also contribute to Vietnam’s National Determined Contribution (NDC) by reducing GHG emissions in the growing livestock sector and by decreasing the national electrical grid dependence on coal-fired generators. SNV will bring to the BeCA its extensive experience and on-going initiatives in promoting a green and productive livestock sector in Vietnam. SNV will play the role of a technical support unit in this partnership. SNV will work with E-GREEN to ensure technical and entrepreneurial capacities, attention to inclusion and gender, and the technical requirements for BeCA. On the other hand, SNV will provide support to DFAT to verify the new biogas genset installations to confirm the RBF payment, monitor progress, and keep reporting to DFAT quarterly. 

SNV is seeking a volunteer to support the market research and baseline survey activities, implementation of Bio-engy for Circular Agriculture project in order to support the Biogas generator in Vietnam.

Main responsibilities

The volunteer will work closely with Energy team, and focus on the task below:

To support the implementation of clean cooking intervention at SNV

  • Join market research on biogas electricity generation which will be serving the business development plan for project.
  • Support field work on conducting Baseline survey which will serve the development of carbon project
  • Logistic support on organizing project workshops, trainings, focus group discussions, and field visits
  • Draft field reports
  • To support the project team and sector leader adequately to requirements on needs-basis

Support from SNV

  • SNV will support the volunteer local travelling expenses and also cover the personal accident insurance when the volunteer is required to work in the fields out of the working station in Ha Noi.
  • He/she will benefit from working with multi-national team of professionals with rich and diverse fields of expertise.
  • SNV will facilitate the volunteer to meet his/her personal learning objectives during this assignment. 

Requirements

 

  • Proactive and independent students ideally study in the subject related to following fields: environmental engineering; environmental sciences, natural resources management; agriculture or other related fields
  • Eager to learn and develop professional working skills in a dynamic work environment
  • Good communication skills in English in both spoken and written 
  • Good computer skills in MS-applications (Word, Excel, Power Points).
  • Female students are particularly encouraged to apply

Timeframe

The assignment will take place from 15th April 2022 to 15th August 2022

Reporting: To complete the assignment, all the above deliverables will have be approved by the Sector Leader.
