Writer Editor for Annual Report


1. Background

Oxfam is a world-wide development organisation that mobilizes the strength and voice of people against poverty, inequality and injustice. We are an international confederation of 20 Oxfam organisations working together in more than 90 countries. Oxfam works with partner organisations and alongside vulnerable women and men to end injustices.

Oxfam’s Vietnam country strategy contributes to shaping the debate on extreme inequality in Vietnam and globally. We seek to change the current narrative that inequality is acceptable and inevitable. We work in partnership with government, civil society, businesses, communities, media, research institutions and think tanks to influence policy and practices aiming at reversing economic, gender and social inequalities.

Oxfam in Vietnam is looking for a writer-editor consultant to work with Oxfam’s communications team in writing up of Oxfam’s Annual Report 2017-2018 in English.

2. Objective

The freelance writer-editor will edit, rewrite and articulate the content of the Annual Report in English to effectively communicate Oxfam’s strategy, interventions and achievements in Vietnam to different groups of audience.

3. Tasks and responsibilities

The freelance writer-editor will:

  • work closely with Oxfam’s communications team and read projects’ documents to understand the concept and plan of the Annual Report;
  • provide inputs to the structure and draft contents prepared by Oxfam’s communications team;
  • edit, rewrite (where necessary) and articulate stories, descriptions, quotes and other contents to present information effectively throughout the Annual Report to achieve communication objectives;
  • edit the draft Annual Report according to relevant stakeholders’ feedback.
  • proofread to ensure high-quality writing in English.

4. Timeframe:

Start date: 28 March 2018
End date: 27 April 2018

5. Quality/Content Control:

  • Stories, descriptions, quotes, facts, figures and other information in the Annual Report need to incorporate the factors of authenticity, sensory, and cultural relevancy.
  • Oxfam owns the copyright and has editorial control over the content and images produced.
    All information provided to the freelancer must be kept confidential.

6. Requirements

  • At least five years of professional experience in writing and editing with background in development and social issues;
  • Proven experience of similar scope and topic is preferable;
  • Proven experience in working with international organizations (successful experience in working with UN agencies, INGOs is an added asset);
  • Ability to analyse and synthesize relevant information to the benefit of the organisation;
  • Ability to meet deadlines and prioritise multiple tasks;
  • Initiative, resourcefulness, timeliness.
