Japan Hands Over Advanced Dioxin Analysis Equipment to Vietnam

On January 16, the Chemical Corps of Vietnam, under the Ministry of National Defense, received 25 dioxin and environmental analysis systems provided under a Japanese government aid program, local media reported.

The systems are part of the project that was implemented from 2019 to 2023 and had a total investment of over $2.8 million, including more than $2.7 million in non-refundable aid from the Japanese government and $108,029 in counterpart funding from Vietnam.

Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien, deputy minister of National Defense and head of the Standing Office of the National Steering Committee on Overcoming the Consequences of Post-War Bombs, Mines, and Chemical Contaminants, expressed confidence that the equipment would significantly boost Vietnam’s capacity to analyze and address dioxin-contaminated areas and strengthen the capabilities of the National Action Center for Toxic Chemicals and Environmental Treatment (NACCET).

Mr. Chien urged NACCET to utilize the equipment in future activities, including investigations, surveys, evaluations, and the treatment of dioxin-contaminated areas. He also highlighted the need for the center to expand international cooperation in technology transfer, attract high-quality human resources, and promote innovative scientific research to address hazardous chemical contamination and environmental pollution.
