Massive Bomb Containing 817kg of Explosives Safely Removed in Hanoi

Authorities in Hanoi have safely handled an M-118 bomb found near Long Bien Bridge, weighing over 1.3 tons and containing a significant explosive payload.

On November 28, the Military Command of Long Bien District (Hanoi) confirmed that it had coordinated with the Engineering Corps of the Capital Command to transport the bomb to the Cam Son Firing Range in Bac Giang Province for safe disposal.

At around 10 a.m. on November 25, local fishermen operating on the Red River near Ngoc Thuy Ward, Long Bien District, spotted the bomb about 200 meters upstream from Long Bien Bridge on the river’s right bank. They promptly reported the discovery to local authorities.

Upon receiving the report, the Long Bien District Military Command secured the site, cordoned off the area, and redirected boat traffic to avoid potential dangers. Specialized teams and equipment were deployed to recover the bomb and transport it to a safe location.

The bomb was identified as an M-118, weighing 1,362kg, with a length of 2.3 meters and a diameter of 56cm. It contained over 817kg of explosives, posing a significant risk.

After thorough examination, a removal and disposal plan was devised. On the night of November 27, the Long Bien District Military Command collaborated with the Engineering Corps of the Capital Command to transport the bomb to the Cam Son Firing Range in Bac Giang for secure handling.
