Vietnam’s achievements in reducing the prevalence of traditional cigarette smoking over the past decade are at risk due to the increasing use of new tobacco products, such as electronic cigarettes and heated tobacco, particularly among young people.
This information was presented at a training conference aimed at enhancing communication skills for journalists, editors, and public information officials in Central Vietnam. The event was organized by the Ministry of Information and Communications and the Tobacco Harm Prevention Fund under the Ministry of Health in Danang City on October 22.
During the conference, speakers discussed the implementation of tobacco harm reduction policies in Vietnam and globally, clarifying the tobacco industry’s strategies regarding these products.
They also debated harm reduction approaches, including the use of heated tobacco as an alternative to traditional cigarettes, along with issues like increased tobacco taxes and the reality of acute pneumonia cases related to new tobacco products, as well as the mechanisms of disease, levels of danger, and links to new tobacco.
