Officials of Vietnam, UN Discuss Gender Equality, Empowerment

On March 4, Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Thanh held talks with officials of UNICEF and UN Women to discuss gender equality and empowerment of women, state media reported.

Ms. Thanh noted that Vietnam would soon begin its term on the UN Women Executive Board for 2025-2027 and plans to contribute to global efforts on sustainable development goals.

She also highlighted Vietnam’s achievements in expanding women’s participation in leadership, with over 30% female representation in the National Assembly. However, she acknowledged ongoing challenges in improving women’s access to education, employment, science, and technology, especially for women and girls in rural and remote areas.

The official proposed continued cooperation with UN Women under the 2022-2026 strategy, while highlighting Vietnam’s appreciation for UNICEF’s contributions.

In response, Representative of UN Women to Vietnam Caroline Nyamayemombe and Deputy Representative UNICEF to Vietnam Michaela Bauer praised Vietnam’s efforts to advance gender equality and child care.

They expressed confidence in Vietnam’s leadership in advancing these global goals. (SGGP, Quoc Hoi, Nhan Dan, hcmcpv.org.vn, Vietnam Plus, Ngay Nay, Cong Luan)
