PM Approves Vietnam’s Higher Education, Teacher Training Plan for 2021-2030

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has approved Decision 452 to outline the higher education and teacher training network plan for 2021-2030, with a vision for 2050, aiming to ensure equitable access to higher education and provide the skilled workforce needed for the country’s development, state media reported.

By 2030, public higher education institutions will make up 70% of the training capacity, while private and non-profit institutions will account for 30%. The plan also envisions the establishment of 50 to 60 institutions providing doctoral programs, with half of them focusing on research and innovation.

Additionally, the plan will focus on upgrading national universities and regional universities to global standards. The Vietnam National University with two branches in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City will be developed as top Asian institutions, while Hue and Danang universities will be promoted to national universities.

The plan also aims to expand the teacher training network, with 180,000 to 200,000 learners expected by 2030, and to grow STEM education, aiming for over one million learners in the field by 2030. (Tuoi Tre, Tin Tuc, vov2.vov.vn)
