The Asia-Pacific Regional Director for the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Pio Smith has called for the expansion of support centers for women and girls facing gender-based violence in Vietnam during his recent visit to Hanoi.
Mr. Pio Smith emphasized expanding facilities like the four existing Anh Duong centers, which offer integrated services, including healthcare, legal, and social support, for victims.
He advocated for a multi-sectoral approach to address the issue by increasing the number of comprehensive service centers.
The UNFPA official also highlighted the economic and social benefits of investing in gender equality, noting that preventing violence can boost productivity and improve the quality of life for future generations.
He stressed that UNFPA remains committed to supporting Vietnam in building a safer and more equitable society.
