Vietnam Advances Gender Equality in Education: Expert

Vietnam has made significant progress in narrowing the gender gap in education, with male and female participation in various levels of study nearly equal, said Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Thi Minh Thi, deputy director of the Institute of Social Science Information.

At a scientific seminar titled “Gender Equality in Education, Training, and Science & Technology” in Ho Chi Minh City on February 19, Assoc. Prof.-Dr. Thi made this assessment based on a 2024 survey of over 9,000 people aged 18 and above across six socio-economic regions nationwide.

Addressing the event, Mr. Pham Quy Trong, deputy director of Department 3 under the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission, emphasized that Vietnam was among the first countries to join the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) and has made considerable efforts to fulfill its commitments to promoting gender equality.

Participants shared research findings on gender equality in higher education, gender parity in employment, and the role of education and training in addressing gender disparities. Discussions also explored gender differences in the use of technological devices and applications amid the Fourth Industrial Revolution, career orientation from a gender perspective, parenting methods, and emerging gender-related issues.
