Vietnam and China discussed strengthening cooperation in geology and mineral resources during a meeting on March 12 chaired by Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Tran Quy Kien and Secretary-General of the China-ASEAN Mining Cooperation Conference Li Xiudan, state media reported.
At the talks, Deputy Minister Kien emphasized Vietnam’s interest in China’s technological advancements, particularly in Guangxi province, and the need to implement an existing memorandum of understanding between geological agencies from both countries.
He also stressed the importance of China’s expertise in mineral resource management, exploration, and integration into the global supply chain.
The official informed that Vietnam has started investing in satellite imaging for resource management, but remote sensing technology remains underdeveloped. He welcomed further collaboration with China to improve data collection and application in Vietnam.
In reply, Mr. Li Xiudan proposed strengthening cooperation in four areas, including communication through the China-ASEAN Mining Cooperation Conference, joint geological research, geological survey development, and remote sensing technology.
He highlighted that China and ASEAN have completed over 1,700 mining cooperation projects and established training and research centers, suggesting expanding knowledge-sharing through China’s universities and research institutions. (Vietnam Plus, Nong Nghiep)
