On November 12, the Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations launched a 2024 training course on International Humanitarian Law (IHL) and unexploded ordnance (UXO) awareness for Vietnam People’s Army officers preparing for United Nations peacekeeping missions.
The training, supported by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), provides officers with essential knowledge for peacekeeping duties.
During the opening ceremony, Mr. Lloyd Gillett, senior armed forces delegate from ICRC Bangkok, stated that the course will include presentations on IHL and its application in peace support missions, alongside knowledge-sharing on UXO. He commended Vietnam’s contributions to UN peacekeeping, which promote a culture of peace and adherence to international humanitarian standards.
Since 2015, the ICRC has supported Vietnam’s IHL training, strengthening cooperation with the Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations and equipping Vietnamese peacekeeping forces with critical humanitarian law expertise for UN missions. (QDND)
