Vietnam’s Ministry of Education and Training (MoET) has proposed limiting enrollment increases at universities with unemployment rates of graduates exceeding 30% or with first-year dropout rates above 15%, according to a draft regulation released on October 27.
The regulation calculates employment rates within 12 months of graduation, requiring that jobs align with graduates’ field of study.
Currently, universities self-report these employment rates, and most indicate a 90%-100% employment level.
Additionally, the MoET is developing the Higher Education Management Information System (HEMIS), a database linking university records with social insurance data, to verify graduates’ actual employment status.
This database is expected to provide a more accurate view of job outcomes, supporting the ministry’s goal of enhancing the alignment between educational programs and labor market needs. (VnExpress, Hanoi Moi)
