Vietnam Loses $3.25B on Natural Disasters in Jan-Oct: GSO

Vietnam recorded an economic loss of VND78.08 trillion ($3.25 billion) due to natural disasters in the first ten months of this year, up by 21.2 times y/y, according to the latest data from the General Statistics Office (GSO).

In the period, the natural disasters caused 525 deaths/missing and injured 2,136 people; while damaging 424,500 hectares of paddy and veggies; 5.1 million heads of poultry and cattle; and 26,200 houses, the GSO said.

In January-October, Vietnam logged 3,475 cases of fires and explosions, which claimed the lives of 89 people and injured 95 others, causing an economic loss of VND368.1 billion, down 3.1% y/y.

Besides, relevant agencies detected 19,282 environmental violations and handled 17,683 of them, with total fines of VND254.5 billion, up 4.4% y/y.
