Vietnam recorded an economic loss of nearly VND20.8 billion ($866,667) due to natural disasters in the first two months of this year, down 73.7% y/y, according to the latest data from the General Statistics Office (GSO).
During the period, the natural disasters damaged 2,700 hectares of paddy and vegetables, the GSO said.
Vietnam also logged 715 cases of fires and explosions in January and February, which claimed the lives of 14 people and injured 12 others, causing an economic loss of VND36.3 billion, down 23% y/y.
Additionally, relevant agencies detected 5,329 environmental violations and handled 4,659 of them, with total fines of VND54.9 billion, down 1.1% y/y. (GSO)
