Vietnam and New Zealand agreed to formalize a climate change cooperation agreement in 2025 to mark 50 years of diplomatic relations, state media reported.
The agreement was confirmed by Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Le Cong Thanh and New Zealand’s Ambassador to Vietnam Caroline Beresford during a recent meeting in Hanoi. The meeting also featured Ms. Anna Broadhurst, lead adviser on Climate Change at the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Trade.
Deputy Minister Thanh highlighted the agreement’s significance, underscoring the countries’ mutual goals in addressing climate challenges and reinforcing resilience in environmental sectors.
He expressed interest in New Zealand’s expertise in developing sustainable infrastructure and carbon credit markets, urging collaboration on strategies for climate-resilient communities and low-carbon agriculture. (Bao Tai Nguyen Moi Truong)
