Vietnam Plans 90% Student Equipped with Drowning Prevention by 2035

Vietnam has a target to equip 70% of students with drowning prevention skills by 2030 and then reach 90% by 2035, as outlined in Decision 1717 issued by the Prime Minister recently.

The program, spanning from 2025 to 2035, aims to reduce drowning incidents by improving students’ self-protection skills.

By 2030, 95% of educators, students, parents, and stakeholders are expected to undergo awareness training, with this figure reaching 100% by 2035.

The country sets a goal to have at least 30% of primary schools and 25% of secondary schools owning swimming pools by 2035, while localities will ensure 70% of communities have at least one swimming pool for safe swimming lessons. Schools are assigned to train two certified swimming instructors by 2030 and three by 2035.

The government tasks localities and relevant agencies to have measures to achieve the goals, such as revising policies, investing in infrastructure, providing funding, enhancing training, and fostering partnerships between schools and stakeholders.
