Vietnam ranks 153rd out of 201 countries worldwide in terms of average height and experts caution that vitamin D deficiency among Vietnamese children remains widespread, adversely affecting their growth potential.
These concerns were raised at the scientific seminar “The Role of Vitamin D3 and K2 in Improving Bone Density and Promoting Height Growth in Children,” organized in Hanoi on November 6 by the Vietnam Institute of Applied Medicine under the Vietnam Medical Association.
Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thi Xuyen, president of the Vietnam Medical Association and former deputy minister of Health, highlighted that malnutrition, especially stunting, remains a global burden affecting 149 million children under five worldwide. Stunting is also the most prevalent form of malnutrition among Vietnamese children and is a major factor influencing the adult height of the Vietnamese population.
