More than 1.3 million Vietnamese are living with coronary artery disease, with nearly 100,000 patients undergoing interventional cardiology procedures annually, experts said at the tenth National Interventional Cardiology Conference in Danang on October 11-12.
The conference attracted over 200 leading speakers in the field, discussing more than 50 specialized sessions.
Prof. Pham Manh Hung, chairman of the Vietnam Interventional Cardiology Association, said that the number of cases requiring intervention has increased by nearly 20% in Vietnam in the past two years, especially among acute myocardial infarction and coronary artery disease patients.
With over 140 interventional cardiology centers across the country, patients now have access to modern scientific achievements without needing to travel abroad. However, experts noted a gap between central and local healthcare services and called for continuous learning from developed countries to enhance cardiac care quality.
Vietnam now boasts six internationally certified centers for transcatheter aortic valve interventions, with two also serving as training centers.
