Vietnam, Russia Boost Ties on Carbon Emission Reduction, Climate Change Issues

 

 

On January 15, Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha met with Special Envoy of Russian President Yuryevich Titov to advance discussions on carbon emission reduction and climate change cooperation between the two nations, state media reported.

At the talks, Deputy PM Ha emphasized Vietnam’s commitment to sustainable development and environmental goals, highlighting the country’s progress in waste management, marine plastic waste reduction, and efforts to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. He also noted Vietnam’s efforts in the establishment of a domestic carbon market.

The Deputy PM acknowledged Russia’s support in scientific research and technology transfer, proposing Russia promote the establishment of BRICS and SCO research funds and create standardized global carbon tools.

In reply, Envoy Titov reaffirmed Russia’s focus on climate policies and environmental protection.

He invited Vietnam to contribute expertise to joint research on carbon management and green technology, encouraging collaboration on global carbon measurement frameworks and the development of Vietnam’s domestic carbon market. (Tin Tuc, Saigon Times, VOV, Vnanet)
