Vietnam Sees Rising Competition in Medical Supplies Bidding

The procurement of medical supplies in Vietnam has become increasingly competitive, with many bidding packages attracting multiple bidders offering significant price differences.

Recent data shows a surge in participation in bidding processes at hospitals and localities, even those in remote areas, leading to lower costs for public healthcare facilities.

In cases of unusually low bids, Hanoi-based Bach Mai Hospital has required bidders to clarify cost components, including execution methods, production and service supply processes, economic solutions, competitive advantages, and the origin of goods, services, and personnel before making a selection decision.

When multiple bidders receive the same technical scores and offer similar prices, some procuring entities consider preferential points for domestically sourced goods as a deciding factor in awarding contracts.

The heightened competition highlights the need for stricter oversight in medical procurement to balance cost efficiency with product reliability, ultimately benefiting the healthcare system and patients. (Bao Dau Thau)
