Vietnam, Singapore Forge Cooperation in Climate Change, Offshore Wind Energy

Officials of Vietnam and Singapore held talks on December 3 to advance bilateral cooperation on climate change, renewable energy, and sustainable development, state media reported.

The discussions, led by Vietnamese Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Do Duc Duy and Singaporean Minister for Manpower and Second Minister for Trade and Industry Tan See Leng, revisited the 2022 agreement under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement between the two countries.

Of which, Singapore proposed joint projects to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and share results contributing to their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC).

The two ministers focused on offshore wind energy, including plans for Vietnam to export renewable electricity to Singapore via undersea cables by 2030, which will mark a significant milestone in bilateral relations.

They also discussed marine resource management, environmental protection, and air quality improvements. Singapore offered to share its expertise in training high-quality personnel for energy transition and sustainable development. (Bao Tai Nguyen Moi Truong)
