Vietnam to Establish Regulations for International Carbon Credit Trading

Vietnam is drafting regulations to manage international carbon credit trading, aiming to align with global emission reduction goals and strengthen partnerships, said Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Do Duc Duy.

Speaking at a meeting with Japan’s Erex Corporation in Hanoi on January 13, Minister Duy emphasized Vietnam’s focus on green development, net-zero emissions by 2050, and pioneering low-carbon technologies.

The minister urged the Vietnam-Japan Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) committee to finalize carbon credit allocation for pilot projects, addressing concerns raised by Japan’s Erex Corporation. He also recommended further study on Erex’s proposed credit-sharing ratio.

Additionally, Mr. Duy suggested the Japanese government, partners, and Erex Corporation to continue supporting Vietnam’s climate change response activities, especially greenhouse gas emission reduction projects.

In reply, Chairman of Erex Corporation Honna Hitoshi shared the company’s investment efforts in biomass energy and carbon credit generation under JCM. The company expressed interest in enhancing carbon credit trade and sought support from Vietnamese authorities. (VnEconomy, Bao Tai Nguyen Moi Truong)
