The Social Insurance Department in Vietnam’s capital city of Hanoi has proposed that the city provide financial support for voluntary social and health insurance contributions for certain groups, including individuals aged 60 to under 75, starting January 1, 2026.
The department estimated that nearly 160,000 elderly people will benefit from this program. Hanoi currently has nearly 1.15 million people aged 60 and above, with 636,700 holding health insurance cards funded by the Social Insurance Fund and government support and 330,700 with family health insurance cards receiving over VND804 billion ($33.5 million) in annual assistance.
By the end of 2024, Hanoi expects 2.17 million people to contribute to compulsory social insurance and nearly 8.17 million to health insurance. The city has supported over 10.9 million participants with a budget of more than VND5.43 trillion from 2022 to 2024. (VnExpress)
