President of the World Stroke Organization (WSO) Professor Jeyaraj Durai Pandian has announced plans to train core medical specialists from major healthcare institutions in Vietnam, enhancing WSO’s capacity to provide stroke system consultations and assessments.
Professor Pandian made this announcement during his visit to Hanoi-based Bach Mai Hospital, marking his second engagement with the institution.
In upcoming plans, WSO will invite Bach Mai Hospital to nominate staff to apply for WSO’s Future Stroke Leaders Fellowship. Professor Pandian expressed optimism that the shared cultural respect for “honoring teachers” between India and Vietnam will foster fruitful collaborations moving forward.
During this visit, Professor Pandian conducted an evaluation to award Bach Mai Hospital the “World Stroke Organization Stroke Center” certification and participated in the 2024 International Stroke Conference held in Hanoi on November 8-9.
Bach Mai Hospital Director Associate Professor Dr. Dao Xuan Co extended gratitude to WSO for its support since 2020 in advancing the hospital’s stroke care capabilities. He added that through WSO’s guidance, Bach Mai Hospital has developed and streamlined rapid response protocols for emergency care, treatment, and patient support.
He emphasized the critical role of workforce training and requested further support from Professor Pandian in this area. He stated that Bach Mai plans to expand its stroke care model across Vietnam’s healthcare network and hoped that WSO’s continued assistance would elevate Bach Mai’s stroke care to be on par with hospitals regionally and globally.
