10 Conservation Areas in Vietnam Join IUCN Green List
Ten conservation areas in Vietnam have participated in the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN)’s Green List of Protected and Conserved Areas (IUCN Green List), which is a set of global standards for successful conservation, local media reported.
They are the Cuc Phuong, Phong Nha-Ke Bang, Vu Quang, Bach Ma, Song Thanh, Bidoup-Nui Ba, Cat Tien, Pu Mat, and Con Dao national parks and the Dong Chau-Khe Nuoc Trong Nature Reserve.
Among them, Con Dao and Pu Mat national parks are in the registration and application phase, while the others are in the candidate phase. Cat Tien National Park is now closest to the Green List Phase.
The IUCN Green List Standard is a unique and holistic approach to nature conservation. It examines protected and conserved areas across several components such as governance and equity, design and planning, and management effectiveness.
According to the United States Agency for International Development (USAID)’s assessment, Vietnam has made encouraging progress in biodiversity conservation and its participation in the IUCN Green List demonstrates its commitment to a sustainable environment.
