100 Workers Suffer from Food Poisoning in South Vietnam

More than 100 workers of Phong Dat Co., Ltd in Vietnam’s southern city of Can Tho, were hospitalized due to food poisoning on Dec 23. The workers reportedly suffered symptoms of stomachache, vomiting and dizzy after having lunch on the same day, the state-run Vietnam News Agency reported late Dec 23. More than 40 victims have been discharged from hospital but 61 others are still at hospital for continuous treatment. Local health officials took food samples for testing to find out the cause. Meanwhile, many workers affirmed that the food had been stale. Late Nov, food poisoning also attacked 14 female workers of Thailand’s Alliance One Apparel Company, located in the southern province of Ben Tre. The General Statistics Office estimates that Vietnam reported 128 food poisoning cases, affecting 4,700 people and leaving 40 deaths in the first eleven months of this year. (Vietnamplus.vn Dec 23)
