200 Vietnamese Students to Practice Nursing in Japan

Almost 200 nursing students of Vietnam’s University of East Asia will participate in the apprenticeship program in Japan after the agreement was officially signed on April 20, state media reported. Accordingly, the Institute Of Education Nanakamado will receive students from the Vietnamese school to practice nursing in the health care facilities for older people in Hokkaido province. Students are also trained with the Japanese nursing standard through the online E-learning, which has duration of 450 hours. The program is taught by the Japanese side. Students will be certified before starting practice. At present, in Vietnam, there are about 150 nursing schools with the annual number of newly-graduated nurses of 36,000 – 40,000. According to Japan International Cooperation Agency's researches, although Vietnam and other ASEAN countries officially recognize each other's medical, nursing and dental services, and can share employees in these fields, Vietnam still needs to improve clinical training to raise the quality of nurses in the country.
