25 Localities in Vietnam Eliminate Malaria by End-2019: Institute

As many as 25 out of 63 provinces and cities in Vietnam have managed to eliminate malaria by the end of 2019, said Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Thanh Duong, director of the National Institute of Malariology Parasitology and Entomology. The 25 localities are comprised of 16 in the northern region, one in the central region, and eight in the southern region. Currently, malaria is recorded the most in some other provinces such as Khanh Hoa, Binh Thuan, Phu Yen, Gia Lai, Kon Tum, Dak Nong, and Binh Phuoc. In 2018, the country recorded 6,870 malaria cases with one death, versus one million cases including 4,646 deaths in 1991. Vietnam is targeting to eliminate malaria by 2025, with a vision to 2030.
