2.6K Babies Escaped Risk of Congenital Disabilities in Southern Vietnam in 2023
Nearly 2,600 fetuses with abnormalities were detected and intervened timely by doctors in southern hospitals in 2023, helping them avoid the risk of disabilities in 2023, an official said.
Associate Professor Dr. Tran Ngoc Hai, director of Ho Chi Minh City-based Tu Du Hospital, spoke at the Vietnam-France-Asia Pacific Obstetrics Conference on May 9.
He stated that enhancing the quality of fetal care is the foundation for improving the population's quality. In recent years, the diagnosis of fetal abnormalities and early intervention have been a focus of development in hospitals. Many congenital abnormalities are detected very early, even within the first three months of pregnancy.
Among the top ten fetal intervention techniques in the world today, Tu Du Hospital has successfully performed 8, he highlighted.
Earlier this year, doctors at Tu Du Hospital and Children's Hospital 1 made a breakthrough with intrauterine cardiac interventions for fetuses with congenital heart defects. These are the first fetal heart intervention cases in Southeast Asia.
